I was constantly dropping phones, so I got a rubber case for my Blackberry from Speck. They make a similar product for the iPhone. I can vouch for its resilience.
HOWEVER, there are two serious caveats:
- Bulk and aesthetics. You've got a big, knobby piece of rubber on your lovely iPhone.
- It's rubber, so it can be sometimes frustrating to dig out of your pocket without turning the whole thing inside-out. And forget putting it into any slim-fitting clothes.
In the end, I ditched the case and forced myself to be more diligent. I now have no case and can't remember the last time I dropped it (*knock on wood*).

Yahoo app search engine launches in UK
Yahoo has announced that its App Search service, a search engine dedicated to iOS and Android apps, has come to the UK offering users a one-stop application shop.
Initially launched back in December in the US, the app search engine uses Yahoo search to scour the Android Market and iTunes to find the apps you want ? given that there are around 500,000 apps filling up both stores that's a lot of apps.
Application process
Once you have found the app, Yahoo will then direct you to the Android Market or iTunes for you to download the thing. Well it will once you have given the search engine your mobile number, or scanned the QR code on the screen.
Some will be thinking that this is just an extra, rather annoying process to finding the apps you want but Yahoo is hoping that its new search engine will make sense of the mountain off apps available.
"Only Yahoo App Search has both the search technology and is device agnostic so can offer users a choice of both Android and iPhone," explained James Gammon, Yahoo search product marketing manager.
"Yahoo App Search not only makes it easy to find and download apps that you are looking for but also discover new apps".
The search engine is live now, so head over to http://uk.apps.search.yahoo.com and get searching.

New CEO for Sony as Hirai takes Stringer’s place
Sony has announced that current CEO Sir Howard Stringer will be replaced by Kazuo Hirai from 1 April.
Currently acting as vice president, Hirai will also take over the role of president while Stringer keeps his hand in as chairman.
The CEO two-step comes as Sony struggles to find a footing in today's crowded tech marketplace while profits slide ever downwards.
With the PS4 not likely to land until 2013 and televisions continuing their slide down the value chain, disappointing tablet efforts and a renewed focus on smartphones after buying out Ericsson, Sony seems to be flailing around looking for its niche.
No more Stringer Bell jokes
But charismatic Hirai has done good things with Sony's PlayStation line and Sony has had him pegged as the horse to back for some time now.
"As challenging as times are for Sony now, were it not for the strong leadership of Sir Howard Stringer these past seven years, we would have been in a much more difficult position," said Hirai, going on to outline Sony's focus on digital imaging, smartphones, gaming and television.
As for Sir Howard, he went a bit Shredder on us: "It was my honour to recommend [Hirai] to the Board for the positions of President and CEO, because he is ready to lead, and the time to make this change is now."
